Another meme, passed along by Human, Being blog.
What are your current obsessions?
I tend to be drawn in by all manner of things archaic and perverse. My latest fascinations have been Egyptian faux beards for women, stone phalluses for the drubbing of thieves, and the baking of bone marrow.
What’s for dinner?
Tea, beans and brown rice.
What is your greatest fear at the moment?
Exploding sac aneurysms.
What are you listening to?
Dogs barking, motorcycles, sirens, and swearing.
If you were a god/goddess what would you be?
Nemesis! Avenger of hubris! Chariot of griffins!
What are your favourite holiday spots?
Sometimes I get to go to the Lake of the Woods. It’s wonderful be out on the cold water with the black granite and pine, and the blazing tamarack with the bald eagles overhead and the loons calling…
What are you reading right now?
I am being swirled in the warm sweet liquor of Roses of Crimson Fire by Gabriela Anaya Valdepena & Richard Denner.
What are four words that describe you?
Friendly, mischievous, intense, and audacious.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Faux snakeskin boots and tasseled moccasins.
Who or what makes you laugh?
Georgy Riecke: Piercing the Mists of Obscure European Culture cracks me up. It’s all this thrilling talk of wild-eyed Russian nihilists and the idiosyncratic practice of the Speyer doctrines. I find it hilarious.
What is your favourite spring thing to do?
It might be nice wearing little cotton dresses instead of a parka and ski-mask. Except that it snowed here yesterday.
What is the best thing you ate or drank lately?
Pan-fried Manitoba pickerel. Either that or the strip of elk-meat jerky I had up at my friend’s farm. You just have no idea how delicious it is. And cabbage soup. And a tomato sandwich.
When was the last time you were tipsy?
I seldom indulge to that degree. I do like to have the occasional bracing shot of vodka or tequila, or a cup of whiskey by a bonfire, or a cold beer with some venison and boiled beets — but I’m just not one to be cross-eyed sipping elaborate concoctions out of fishbowl-sized glasses or lurching around all blotto and maudlin on wine. Not usually anyway.
What song can’t you get out of your head?
By the Heat of Your Light -Juliette & the Licks. It’s exquisitely… yearning and mournful. I do enjoy torturing myself with it somehow.
Your fears?
I absolutely cannot touch terra cotta, frosted glass, or flour. It causes some kind of blood-curdling sensation. And, like everyone else, I’m also afraid of driving uncontrollably off bridges, strangling on gristle, or accidentally sticking a knife in my head.
Best new blog?
Cries in the Night: Whispers in the Dark is the most compelling storytelling I’ve come across in awhile — it’s a nail-biter — and I like the sorta grim, straight-forward, unblinking style of her writing. It’s rough stuff.

The most original, enthralling, engaging, deliciously worded, answers to that kind of personal likes and dislikes questionnaire that I have ever read! You turn everything into poetry. And your self-portrait is divine! Also, thanks for mentioning my book. What an honor! But be careful mentioning memes; you’re gonna make Dawkins orgasm in his trousers.
Haha! What if he ever showed up here and saw that? Awkward!
God bless Johannes Speyer and wild-eyed Russian nihilists.
Pleased to be of service.
(Eep! Georgy Riecke!)
Thanks for stopping by, Georgy. Your writing is top drawer.
